Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signs application for EU membership. The decision came this Monday as fighting with Russia continued in several regions and peace talks on the Belarusian border were closed. 

On February 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that now was a "crucial moment" to decide on his country's membership in the European Union. 

"It is a crucial moment to close the long discussion once and for all and to decide on Ukraine's EU membership. We discussed with the EU president the further effective assistance and heroic struggle of the Ukrainians for their free future," he said in a social media post.
