Visaless African Prosecuted after Bribery Attempt in Qafe-Thana Border

Case of attempted bribery has been cracked down on this Tuesday in Qafe-Thana border, where a 22-year-old from Senegal country in West Africa tried to give EUR 50 to the officers of this crossing point to let him pass.

According to the police, the perpetrator with initials D. I. lacked a visa and wanted to enter Albania, but things did not go as planned for him. In addition to not being allowed entrance to Albania, the youth now has to face trial on the criminal charge of "Active corruption of persons exercising public functions".

Meanwhile, the materials were submitted to the Prosecution at the Pogradec Court of First Instance, for further legal action.

“The services of the Border Police Station Qafë Thanë, at the entrance of the Republic of Albania, during the processing of the citizens' documentation, have ascertained that the citizen D.I., 22 years old, resident in Senegal, had placed a 50 EUR banknote inside his passport, with in order to allow him to cross the border in the direction of Albania, without a visa.

At the end of the actions, the specialists for the Investigation of Crimes in the Pogradec Police Commissariat, started the criminal proceedings for the citizen D. I., for the criminal offense 'Active corruption of persons exercising public functions'”, stated the police.
