Vucic Concedes Defeat as Student List Leads in Serbian Parliamentary Elections

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic conceded defeat in the early parliamentary elections held on October 25, acknowledging that the Student List had won more votes than the coalition led by his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), according to Serbian media outlets N1 and Danas.

Speaking at the SNS election headquarters at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Vucic told party officials and selected media representatives that the results indicated a loss for his political bloc.

“Based on the sample, it is clear that we have lost these elections,” Vucic said, according to Danas.

He estimated that the Student List would secure approximately 130 to 140 seats in parliament, while the SNS-led United Serbia coalition would win around 105 seats. He also said that no other electoral list would enter parliament.

According to figures announced by Vucic and reported by N1, the Student List received approximately 2.2 million votes, compared with 1.72 million for the United Serbia coalition.

The elections were held across Serbia, with 6,451,292 registered voters casting ballots at 8,392 polling stations, according to Danas. Of these, 29 polling stations were located in institutions serving prison sentences, while 93 were established abroad in 37 countries, where 102,147 voters were registered.

Voters from Kosovo cast their ballots at 60 polling stations in the Serbian towns of Raska, Tutin, Vranje and Kursumlija.

The election process was monitored by 16,271 representatives from 26 domestic and 57 international organisations, including 622 international observers, Danas reported.

The figures announced by Vucic represent his preliminary assessment of the election outcome. Final official results were not included in the reports cited here.
