Ten members of the Headship, the National Council or FRPD and founders of the Democratic Party, unanimously demand the resignation of Lulzim Basha from the post of chairman of the party. 

Among the names there are prominent figures such as Bujar Nishani, Arben Imami, Arben Ristani, etc. They say that the DP in 8 years with Basha as a leader has been a failure, and according to them he is the only responsible.

Moreover, the group of Democrats demands extraordinary elections within the DP, for the new structures of the party. For this initiative, they call on the membership of the Democratic Party to join them.

“Albania arrived to these elections after an 8-year period of corrupt, criminalized governance, which has led the country to extreme poverty, mass abandonment, and despair. Winning the elections was the only chance for a different future, so these elections could not and should not have been lost. The citizens of this country, the voters and the members of the party have supported the party in protests and everywhere, but the general dissatisfaction and this support were not capitalized with the victory in the elections.

The defeat in the elections has a name and he is the chairman Mr. Lulzim Basha! He, among other things, has extinguished the dream of democracy of hundreds of thousands of Albanians, losing two general elections, handing over the central government, local government and opposition in the hands of Edi Rama.

The Democratic Party has examples of a political and civic behavior in the event of losing the election in normal circumstances, such as those of 2013 after eight years of rule, when the party chairman Sali Berisha and other senior leaders took responsibility and gave resignation to pave the way for the restructuring of the party and the election of a new direction to make an opposition worthy of its history and lead it to victory.

Lulzim Basha, since 2013, when he took over the leadership of the party, has led it without professionalism and without the necessary institutional dignity. He is directly responsible for the ousting and, often, the arbitrary termination of many party structures, the removal of many members, founders, the most worthy contributors, its backbone, each individual and the voice of free, who did not agree with this way of running the Democratic Party, leaving no opportunity for any open forum and eliminating internal democracy in the Party.

For these reasons and many others, we demand the immediate and irrevocable resignation of the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Lulzim Basha. We demand the urgent meeting of the National Council of the Democratic Party, in order to pave the way for the start of a radical process of reflection and analysis, necessary and vital for the Party, a process which will enable extraordinary elections, with a fair race, to open and democratic for the new governing structures of the Party, based on the best models of our sister parties of the classical right.

The Democratic Party must restore democracy to its structures, free speech, competitiveness, collegial decision and pure and uncompromising competition.
