9K Businesses Increase Salary Fund

Nearly 9,000 businesses in the country that gave employees a portion of their salary outside the system have responded positively to the tax administration call and have increased their salary declarations.

The General Directorate of Taxes announces that from October 1, 2024, they sent a notice to 130,000 registered businesses asking them to make an accurate declaration by October 20, the date that coincided with the submission of the payroll statement for September.

This call made due to the under-declaration of employees' salaries, with negative consequences on citizens' pensions, has caused nine thousand taxpayers to increase the employees' salaries with a total fund of Lek 1.25 billion.

For October 2024, the Tax Administration has achieved a significant increase in the collection of contributions, collecting Lek 819 million or 6% more than the plan," said the Tax Administration.

Based on the declarations made until October 20, the Tax Administration has made an analysis of the payment list where 37,331 taxpayers have been identified who still follow the informality of salaries, who despite the first notification have not reacted.

For these businesses, a personalized notification has been sent, to give the businesses a second and last chance to react, otherwise, they will be subject to control and face fines as provided by law.

The action against the under-declaration of employees' salaries will continue throughout 2025, where beyond awareness campaigns, fines, or business closures, it will go as far as the blocking of real estate that the business may own. The focus of this action, where arrests have also been announced, will be the construction, tourism, trade, and transport sectors. This sector that has the lowest wages declared their development in recent years.

Also for October 2024, the Tax Administration has achieved a significant increase in the collection of contributions, collecting Lek 819 million or 6% more than the planned plan.

After the results obtained from the analysis of all the payrolls declared in October 2024, the Tax Administration has identified 37,331 taxpayers at risk in the field of informality of wages, those who, despite the first notification, have not yet reacted. For these 37,331 taxpayers, the Tax Administration has sent another notification (pop-up), this time personalized, to give businesses a second and last chance to react, otherwise they will be subject to control and monitoring by the law.
