Albania-Kosovo with a Joint 'Abetare' in September

Albania and Kosovo will start to use a joint 'Abetare' (First class main book) in September. This was the result of the meeting and agreement of the two governments, in November 2021.

This Abetare will be the second after 2012, when the joint Kosovo-Albania Abetare was selected. It is expected to be in the hands of students on September 1, 2022.

The publishing houses "Pegi" from Albania and "Dukagjini" from Kosovo have been declared winners of the competition for the publication of the common, nationwide Abetare.  The selection of the winning publishing houses was made on May 31 and there was a period of 15 days for complaints.

In a media conference after the meeting of the governments of Kosovo and Albania, Rama emphasized that the first phase related to the publication of the joint Abetare has already been completed.

The head of the Albanian government emphasized that the same will be sent to North Macedonia and other states where there are Albanians.

"We have the winner of Abetare. The first phase is over. We will send it to Macedonia and other countries where there are Albanians", said Rama.

Meanwhile, on July 7, the Ministry of Education and Sports (MAS) in Albania, in a communique, announced that following the work to fulfill the technical criteria of the single common text, it called on the Publishing House 'Pegi ', to send five physical and digital copies of the "Primer" text and the workbook to the Joint Commission in this ministry, in order to approve this text.

On November 26, 2021, Albania and Kosovo decided on cooperation in the field of education. Meanwhile, on December 21 of the same year, the Minister of Education in Kosovo, Arbërie Nagavci, together with the Minister of Education of Albania, Evis Kushi, signed the agreement for the use of a common Primer in the two countries.

On January 28, 2022, the Ministry of Education in Kosovo and Albania opened the call for applications in the competition for the single common text "Primary", accompanied by the workbook.

This was announced by the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MAShTI), Arbërie Nagavci, through a post on the Facebook social network.

"One language, one Primer... After a joint work of the Commission for the organization of the competition for the new Primer, the Ministry of Education of Kosovo and that of Albania have today opened the call for applications in the competition for the single joint text 'Primer', accompanied by the workbook", wrote Nagavci.

She had invited publishing houses from both countries to apply for this competition. The nationwide Abetare was promoted as an idea, in the joint meeting between the two governments, in Prizren, by the then Prime Minister of Albania, Sali Berisha, and the former Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi.

The winning text for the joint Albania-Kosovo primer was selected on April 24, 2012. This primer had four co-authors, Shezai Rrokajn and Mimoza Gjokutajn from Albania, as well as Islam Krasniqi and Saranda Kumonova-Pozhegun from Kosovo.

Meanwhile, in this ceremony, after making the common primer, Albania and Kosovo had agreed that in the future there would also be unification of other school textbooks.
