Albania Ranked Most Unsafe Country in Region for Internet Security

Individuals and businesses are relying more and more on information technology, but in addition to the benefits, this also has a negative side, such as exposure to cyber threats that compromise Internet security.

By Internet security we will understand the security for the activities and transactions that are carried out over the Internet.

According to data from the Balkan Barometer, businesses in Albania have stated that the most frequent problems they have encountered on the Internet are mainly related to viruses.

Albania has the highest percentage of businesses in the country that have encountered this problem. Specifically, according to the conducted survey, it results that in Albania there are about 32% of businesses that have encountered viruses in their computer system.

Other problems related to insecurity in the network are also cyber attacks as well as wrong presentation of identity or data theft.

In concrete figures, only 1% of surveyed businesses have encountered problems with cyber attacks and 2% of them have faced data theft, while for 64% of businesses, the online experience has been safe and without problems.

The same uncertainties are encountered in the Balkan countries where the risk of viruses is more widespread. In a comparative analysis between the Balkan countries, we say that after Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro are listed as the most risky countries in the Internet network.

Specifically, 25% of businesses in Kosovo and 15% of businesses in North Macedonia and Montenegro have encountered viruses while using the Internet.

On the other hand, Bosnia and Herzegovina appears to be the country with the highest computer security, where 87% of surveyed businesses have not experienced problems related to the security of data or transactions carried out on the Internet during their experience.

With a small margin, Serbia also joins the list, where 84% of businesses have stated that internet security has been high and they have never had problems.
