A dispute over salaries within Albania’s justice system is continuing to strain relations between representatives of the judiciary and the government.

Prime Minister Edi Rama has called a meeting for Monday at 12:30 p.m. to discuss the salary structure for the country’s judicial system. However, two organizations representing judges, along with Albania’s Supreme Court, have decided not to attend.

The Union of Judges of Albania and the National Association of Judges have both declined to participate in the meeting convened by Prime Minister Rama.

The judges’ association said the salary issue has already been submitted to Albania’s Constitutional Court for review. The organization stressed that it is not opposed to dialogue, but said it would engage in discussions after the Constitutional Court has issued its decision.

The standoff comes as the government and judicial representatives remain divided over the structure and level of salaries within Albania’s justice system, with the Constitutional Court now expected to play a key role in resolving the dispute.
