Amnesty, 808 Leaved Jail, 955 Benefited Reduced Sentence

From the 'Amnesty' Law in Albania earned freedom 808 people, while 955 others had a reduced sentence.

Minister of Justice, gave the data during an interpellation in Parliament, where he said that the Amnesty should be bigger as the Albanian prisons are over populated.

"There are 4,918 detainees and convicts. The amnesty was necessary due to overcrowding in prison and detention as well as the lack of human resources. From all international reports, it is said that overcrowding in detention is high. The average time spent in detention is 8.7 months, while in the EU it is 5.5 months.
The law began to be implemented on April 24. 808 people who left the institutions on April 24 benefited from the amnesty. 955 convicts benefited from reduced sentences. The amnesty is soft, it should have been wider," he said.
