Big Snowstorm Expected in Greece

According to the Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergencies in Greece, the snowfall is expected to be very heavy these days, as it will cover a large part of the country, including the capital Athens as well as the Aegean islands.

In order to avoid problems, the authorities announced that from Saturday evening, the circulation of heavy trucks on the axis Athens-Lamia, Athens-Thiva, as well as on all peripheral axes of Attica, will be prohibited.

All vehicles that will circulate in these areas must have chains or anti-snow decks on their vehicles, while the residents of the areas that will be affected have been notified through the emergency number 112, not to move if they do not want to have an important reason from Saturday 04 February until the evening of Monday 06 February.

This deadline can be extended further if necessary. The prefecture of Attica announced that in the next few hours it will announce whether schools will be opened on Monday, while all the municipalities of the country have opened heating rooms for residents in need and have been put on standby until the end of the storm, which is estimated by meterologists as one of the most powerful of recent years.
