Bilateral Agreement between the Italian and Albanian Police Reached

The first meeting of the permanent table between the Chief of Police, Franco Gabrielli and the Chief of the Albanian Police Ardi Veliu took place this Tuesday in Roma.  

Joint activities of a technical-operational nature and strategic guidelines for the realization of common security objectives are the main objective of the leaders of the two Police forces who will meet every 6 months as the implementation of the guidelines will be handled by the Italian contact point of the International Police Cooperation Service. 

During the meeting a new operating protocol was also signed between the parties which will replace the one of 2012. 

According to the new protocol will be offered aerial surveillance services in Albanian territory, with the collaboration of the Guardia di Finanza, for the identification and eradication of cannabis crops and maritime surveillance services to combat illicit trafficking by sea affecting the two Countries, with helicopters and remotely piloted aircraft. 

Te Italian ambassador to Albania, Fabrizio Bucci and the Albanian ambassador to Italy, Anila Bitri Lani and the Albanian deputy interior minister Julian Hodaj were present at the meeting too. 

The works continued in the afternoon at the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, with a technical-operational table chaired by the Deputy Chief of Police Vittorio Rizzi. 

The topics addressed were those for the fight against organized crime, corruption and illegal immigration.
