US Chargé d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn Met Prosecutors, Themes Discussed

During her first visit to Gjirokaster, Chargé d’Affaires Nancy VanHorn met with the Chief of the Gjirokaster Prosecution Office, Mr. Petrit Cano, and his fellow prosecutors. Ms. VanHorn expressed her gratitude to all members of the Gjirokaster Prosecution Office for their daily efforts, noting that while much of the country’s attention is focused on Tirana, prosecutors across Albania continue to work for justice under challenging conditions, serving as a cornerstone of support for individual citizens who are victims of crime.

Ms. VanHorn and U.S. Embassy representatives also met with several organizations in Gjirokaster, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Caritas Albania, and the Ombudsperson’s representative, who work collaboratively to provide services for migrants passing through southern Albania and support authorities in the prescreening process. She thanked them for their crucial work in providing these essential services for these vulnerable individuals.

These engagements highlighted our shared dedication to justice and law enforcement, support for vulnerable populations, and the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance security for the citizens of Albania.
