Cold Weather Suspends Exhumation of Greek Soldiers' Bodies in Permet

The process of exhuming the remains of Greek soldiers in Përmet has temporarily stopped these days due to cold weather.

One week ago, Greek specialists declared to the Albanian authorities that the field next to the football stadium has under it the remains of almost 1.000 Greek soldiers killed in the Italo-Greek war in 1940-1941, which are buried in individual cemeteries.

For this reason, a group of Greek specialists in late December inspected the territory that serves as a training annex for age teams and through advanced laser technique identified the bones of bodies buried in this area.

Local authorities have made available the public utility workers of the Municipality of Përmet to exhume the remains. During this period the remains of 15 Greek soldiers were exhumed. The difficulties lie in the depth of burial of the bones as they are at a depth of almost 2.3 meters.
