DP Proposes VAT Reducement for Food Basket
Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, presented in the plenary session of this Thursday, the amendments of the Democratic Party for the fiscal package, focusing on VAT reduction from 20% to 6% for food basket products.
In her speech, Tabaku said that the fiscal package brought by the government brings an increase in taxes for citizens by EUR 50 million, as well as increases the burden on farmers.
"Dear citizens who can not wait for the budget to be approved to see if there is any benefit or not, dear farmers who have protested with dignity even today in front of the parliament, although you try to bring proposals you have never been heard in 9 years. Dear family, students and pupils who will pay more and more taxes every year with this fiscal package. In 8 years the packages have had an additional burden of EUR 2.2 billion.
EUR 50 million are added taxes this year. Added for farmers, added for working installments. On the other hand, tax cuts for a minority continue. Today, discussions should be about how, after two difficult economic years, we can get out of this circus of declining consumption, from this difficult cycle that Albanian families are going through, from the increase of unemployment, but today in this parliament they will raise the cards for approving a scheme change that is to the detriment of the farmer. A change of scheme that a few years ago they defended themselves. They oppose what they said and say that this scheme favors the great ones.
I find it difficult in this parliament to separate truth from lies, but I believe that every citizen feels and has seen it in his own pocket. I am here today to introduce an amendment to VAT. The Democratic Party has introduced 120 amendments in 9 years. In fact, I had given up on submitting amendments. The parliamentary group of the Democratic Party decided that it should present an amendment to reduce VAT on food basket products from 20% to 6% in order to boost consumption," said Tabaku.
