Durrës Drug Bust Arrestees Deny Affiliation with Narcotics

Two detainees, who were handcuffed for 45.5 kg of cocaine that was seized from the Port of Durres stated on Thursday that they have nothing to do with the narcotics load. 

According to local media, the administrator of the company "Apetit Group", Arben Ferizi said he had ordered chicken, snd that all actions are done online. 

Furthermore, he pointed out that the company was not aware of what else was in the container. 

"The company has been dealing with the production of sausages for years and is successful. There is no need to be implicated in drug trafficking. We as a company have no connection and we are not aware of the presence of narcotics in the container", said Ferizi. 

On his part, the customs agent Egert Vargu has stated that his job is to do customs clearance procedures, while emphasizing that he does not do the control of containers. 

"It's not my job. My job is to deal with the documentation", underlined the agent. 

However, the cocaine was transiting from Brazil to North Macedonia, and was reportedly seized thanks to the information available to the Criminal Police of the Durrës Local Police Directorate, while the two arrested are charged with the criminal offense "Narcotics Trafficking". 

The narcotics  container was filled with chicken, while during the checks, 40 packages of suspected cocaine, weighing 45 kg and 500 grams, were found inside the chicken load. 

In the meantime, the Police announced that the investigative work continues to identify and apprehend the suspects who are hiding behind the load of narcotics. 

This is the second quantity of drugs seized by the Durrës Police in the port in the span of a month after on May 17 another load of 59 kg of cocaine was seized in a container with coal coming from Ecuador.
