Durrësi Prosecution officially informed Thursday that started an investigation over an alleged toxic dust shipped without authorization from Albania.

In a press statement this prosecution informed that has registered criminal proceedings no. 1596, dated 16.08.2024, based on the materials referred by the General Directorate of Customs for the criminal offense "Smuggling of prohibited or restricted goods", provided by article 171 of the Penal Code.

This prosecution also informed that it took materials from the Durrës Local Police Directorate, for the criminal offense "Transportation of waste", provided by article 201/b of the Criminal Code and "Abuse of duty", provided for by article 248 of the Criminal Code, where referred to information received from the media regarding this shipment of suspected toxic waste.

"In the framework of this criminal proceeding, the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, Durrës, informs that intensive investigative actions are being carried out in cooperation with the European Office against Economic Fraud (OLAF) and
Albanian law enforcement institutions and international partners, to quickly and completely clarify all the circumstances of the event," says statement.
