Ex-Minister Tahiri Meets Family at Prison
Former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri is being held in Jordan Misja Prison 313, following a ruling by the Special Appeal Court that sentenced him to three years and four months in prison.
On Monday morning, Tahiri held meetings in the detention facility with his family and his two defense lawyers, Maks Haxhiaj and Dritan Jahaj. Jahaj said that Tahiri was calm, while in the following days they will appeal to the high court for the decision of the appeal.
The former minister stands isolated on the second floor of building number two of this institution and stands in a single room equipped with a refrigerator and TV. Sources from the General Directorate of Prisons suggest that in the coming days his transfer to Rrogozhina prison is expected because Vaqarr prison is under reconstruction.
For a period of 10 days, the former minister will be under surveillance by the prison authorities for security reasons, because in prison 313 there are high-risk convicts. Saimir Tahiri was sentenced by the special court of appeal to 3 years and four months in prison for abuse of office.
