First Lady Pays Visit in Berati's National Museum
On the International Day for Monuments and Archaeological Sites, the First Lady Armanda Begaj, was in Berat to visit together with a group of students of this city the National Iconographic Museum "Onufri", as well as the museum dedicated to the rescue of the Jews "Solomon".
Begaj chose the city of Berat, registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in order to raise students' awareness of the importance of knowing the Albanian cultural heritage.
Today's visit of the First Lady is a continuation of her initiative and that of the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, to promote the Albanian cultural heritage and to emphasize the importance of educating children on this heritage.
In the "Onufri" National Museum, the students listened with great curiosity to Anila Dobroniku, the curator of this museum, who, like in a history lesson, explained to the students what icons are and why they were necessary for the time.
They also had the opportunity to get to know the craftsmanship of Onufri, as well as other iconographers exhibited in the museum.
Addressing the children, Begaj said, among other things: "You children have the great fortune to grow up in a city with a very ancient and extraordinary cultural heritage. Berat is an asset of yours, of all of us, but also of all humanity. Therefore, you have the beautiful task of getting to know your city, your country, to appreciate its artistic and cultural wealth, to preserve it but also to promote it wherever you are."
After visiting the "Onufri" Museum, the First Lady together with the accompanying students also visited the "Solomon" Museum, which is dedicated to the history of the rescue of the Jews in Berat.
