Former Democratic Party MP Azgan Haklaj has reportedly been stopped by authorities in North Macedonia at the Bllatë border crossing near the town of Dibër.

Haklaj also shared a report about the incident on his social media.

According to sources cited in reports about the incident, Haklaj was stopped by a security service linked to the office of North Macedonia's prime minister. He was considered that he posed a threat to national security.

The incident was also reportedly brought to the attention of Ali Ahmeti, leader of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), the main ethnic Albanian political party in North Macedonia.

Haklaj was travelling towards Skopje with journalist Ferdinand Samarxhiu. A protest march is expected to take place in the North Macedonian capital over a decision by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers concerning former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).

No further details about the reasons for the reported detention have been made public.
