Germany, Albanians on Trial for Turning Hotel into Weed Farm
Two Albanians, 32-year-old Erblin S. and 21-year-old Eugert Q. have appeared in court in Germany on charges of cannabis cultivation.
Their activities at Haus Bergmann on Bismarckstrasse had caught the attention of police last November, and investigators discovered 1,500 cannabis plants in a former hotel.
According to German media, the final decision on them is expected to be made on June 1.
Meanwhile, one of the accused is said to have rented the property. On March 1, 2021, the defendants allegedly started growing cannabis plants in 15 specially prepared rooms.
In the end, the plantation is learned to be spread over all 48 rooms of the former hotel. Even the "bowling alley" room in the basement is said to have been turned into a "garden".
If successful, Albanians would receive over 125kg of marijuana and earn over 1m euros. What has shocked the public in Germany is how such a plantation could stand under public radar for months in the middle of the city center, surrounded by apartment buildings and attentive neighbors.
Anyone who knows the scene knows that "weed houses" are run at great expense for bathtubs and plant soil, extensive lighting and ventilation technology, which may have cost thousands of euros.
Such plantations are usually operated in commercial areas to avoid public attention, but the Albanians had taken their chances, as reported.
