Gjirokastra Youth Arrested for Robbing Illegal Immigrants
Police have arrested Monday one of the perpetrators accused of robbery, after 11 foreign immigrants who had entered Albania illegally from Greece through the green border were robbed.
The 21-year-old, in cooperation with other persons, took 11 illegal immigrants on the Gjirokastra-Virua road axis, in order to transport them to Tirana, for monetary gain.
After escorting them to the vicinity of the village of Mashkullore with their cars, they then took the immigrants outside the cars and stole their money, 11 mobile phones and other personal items.
Meanwhile, work continues to identify and apprehend other persons involved in this criminal activity, and the materials were forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office at the Gjirokastra Court of First Instance for further action.
"Specialists of the Crime Investigation Section at the Gjirokastra Police Commissariat, in cooperation with the structures of the Gjirokastra DVP, after receiving information that some people had violently taken a large amount of money, personal belongings and mobile phones, 11 immigrants who had entered illegally from Greece in Albania, through the green border, immediately organized the work to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Thanks to the timely response and professional work, it became possible to identify, capture and arrest one of the suspected perpetrators, namely the citizen:
-A. O., 21 years old, resident in Gjirokastra, for the criminal offenses "Theft with violence" and "Assistance in illegal border crossing", committed in collaboration.
The 21-year-old, in cooperation with other persons, on 22.05.2022, received 11 illegal immigrants on the road axis Gjirokastër-Virua, in order to transport them to Tirana, for profit.
These citizens escorted the emigrants to the vicinity of the village of Mashkullore, with their vehicles, then took them out of the vehicles and forcibly stole a large amount of money, 11 mobile phones and other personal items that the illegal immigrants had on them", said the police.
