Heavy Rains in Albania, Minister Informs on Situation

Minister of Defence Niko Peleshi, in a statement to the media, said that so far there are no problems in the districts due to the rain. He called on the municipalities to be on full alert as heavy rains are expected in the coming days mainly in the northern districts of the country. 

"So far, from the reports made in the last 24 hours, we do not have any problematic situations in the districts. River quotas are normal. In the districts of Shkodër, Dibër, Kukës and Lezhë, there may be floods of small mountain rivers and landslides. There may be localized flooding depending on the condition of the locations. 

All Municipal staffs are on alert, they worked in time to prevent possible floods. An extraordinary amount of rainfall can face us with unavoidable emergencies and additional measures must be taken without endangering the lives of citizens", said Peleshi. 

Peleshi emphasized that the Municipality of Shkodra and Lezha, as two of the most problematic areas with floods, must be on the ground all the time. 

"Based on the information sent by IGJEUM, the forecasts for the following days until January 20 and dot are as follows. Today, intense rain is expected in Shkodër and Kukës. Intense rainfall in Lezha and Dibër, average in other districts. Dibra, Shkodër, Kukës, Lezhë Elbasan, Vlorë and Gjirokastër heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected. 

The flows in the Drin cascade will increase from the morning of today and until January 21, they will be in ascending order. Increased readiness of the Civil Defence structures that have in their administration road infrastructure reserves, electricity supply. Shkodër municipality has taken the need to take measures to warn the population, especially in the areas of Lower Shkodra, in the surrounding areas, etc. to take measures to monitor the rivers of Buna, Kiri and Drin", said Peleshi.
