High Dairy Prices, Competition Authority to Monitor Market
The Competition Authority has reacted to the information about the 37% increase in dairy prices in the country. The information was made public by the media and was based on an announcement by the milk processing enterprises.
CA announced that it has decided to set up a working group to look at the situation on the ground and to identify violations of the law.
According to the CA, violators of the law on "competition protection" will be sanctioned with a fine of up to 10% of the turnover of the previous financial year.
"-For monitoring the wholesale and retail market of milk by-products
The Competition Authority, based on some information made public in the media on the notification of milk processing companies, which have notified retail outlets that, starting from 15.02.2023, new dairy supplies will have prices up to 37% higher, decided to establish the Working Group for monitoring this market.
Sharing the same concern about the increase in the price of dairy products by the companies in question, the Authority is monitoring on the ground in order to find out if this notice will be applied in the retail market and, above all, if this behaviour is abusive and therefore in violation of law no. 9121/2003 "On the protection of competition".
Law no. 9121/2003 "On the protection of competition" prohibits all agreements that have as their object or as a consequence the obstruction, limitation or distortion of competition in the market, especially agreements that directly or indirectly determine purchase or sale prices, limit or control production, share markets or sources of supply or set trading conditions.
Bringing to the attention of milk processing enterprises that the violation of the law "On the protection of competition" constitutes an administrative misdemeanour and is sanctioned with a fine, in the amount of up to 10 percent of the turnover of the previous financial year of the enterprises involved in illegal agreements," it is said in the announcement.
