Kosovo PM Praises Agreements Signed with Albania in Recent Years

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has assessed as very successful the advancement of relations between Kosovo and Albania in many fields. Through a note on social media, Kurti said that for two and a half years, while he has been in government, 58 bilateral agreements have been made between Kosovo and Albania.

He also mentioned the increase in trade exchanges between the countries.

We recall that on Thursday, Albin Kurti closely followed the Albanian national team at the "Air Albania" stadium, where Edi Rama was also present, but the two leaders did not appear next to each other.

"Two republics, one nation. Two and a half years, 58 bilateral agreements, with one goal: more benefits for citizens, more for the economy.

For over 200,000 residents of our common border zone, we enabled free movement by operationalizing 26 separate crossings. And for everyone, we enabled free crossing without border controls during the summer months, weekends and official holidays. We are currently close to implementing free passage without checks every day of the year.

In addition to moving from one country to another, we also facilitated staying in one and the other country, because we simplified the procedures for obtaining a residence permit, with a 5-year term. We also removed the obligation for apostille of administrative documents.

With two customs offices of the Republic of Kosovo in Durrës and Porto Romano, we gained access to the sea. Customs clearance of all goods destined for Kosovo takes place there. This has directly helped our businesses that have already saved nine million euros, at the same time that Albania's economy has also benefited from the 50% increase in Kosovo shipments through the Port of Durrës.

This year our trade exchanges are the highest ever, as there are still three months left until the end of the financial year. Albania's investments in Kosovo are also the highest ever. In 2019, they were only 15.2 million euros, while in 2022, they increased fivefold, reaching a value of 79.7 million euros.

We have signed the agreement for the construction of the Durrës-Prishtina railway, which is one of the largest and most important projects, both economically and nationally. It will connect Kosovo with the corridors that pass by us, but are not connected to us. It will unite our economies even more tightly and increase mobility and connectivity between our republics.

Meanwhile, in addition to the unification of the primer for first grade students, we also unified the procedures for applying and registering students in universities, as well as starting the major work for the Albanian Encyclopedia. Much has been done. Even more needs to be done", writes Albin Kurti.
