Kurti Says There Is Risk of War Between Kosovo and Serbia

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that there is a risk of a war between Kosovo and Serbia. During an interview for the Italian media, Prime Minister Kurti said that the situation has changed after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"The risk of a new conflict between Kosovo and Serbia exists. I would be irresponsible if I said the opposite, especially since the world has seen what Russia has done to Ukraine", said Kurti.

He then continued: “I don't want to say it's too high. We have the NATO contingent here, but it is certainly high. We are a democracy bordering on an autocracy, after all. The first episode, a consequence of the Kremlin's fascist idea of ??Pan-Slavism, was Ukraine. If we have a second episode, then the likelihood that a third war will take place in the Western Balkans and in Kosovo in particular, will be very high."

As for the meeting in Brussels after tensions over Kosovo documents and license plates, he said: "In the third week of August there will be a meeting in Brussels between us and the Serbs on the general aspects of Kosovo-Serbia relations, I hope it will help reduce tension. The protest did not arise spontaneously, it was organized by Belgrade and supported by Russia.

To the question "don't you think that membership in NATO, your declared goal, can generate other tensions with Serbia?", the prime minister of Kosovo answered: "The opposite is true. Our partnership with the Peace Program and alliance with NATO will help maintain a lasting peace. Our orientation is transparent. And it is based on Euro-Atlantic values."
