Meeting with Scholz, PM Rama Urges Visa Liberation for Kosovo

Prime Minister Edi Rama demanded visa liberalization for Kosovo, at a joint conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as part of his official visit to Berlin.

During his speech, the Prime Minister focused on a number of issues but stressed that Germany must fulfill its part in the free movement of Kosovo Albanians. Rama also clarified in the presence of the German Chancellor, that the "Open Balkans" is nothing but, as he says, an attempt to implement the Berlin process.

The head of government also focused on the EU integration process, saying that he expects a positive response in June. Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Rama said that unanimously with the EU, they condemn Russia's military aggression, calling for the war to end as soon as possible.

"It is a pleasure to receive your invitation and to meet again. I am very encouraged by the conversation with the Chancellor because I found an extremely encouraging willingness of him and Germany on his behalf to push more resolutely forward the process of integration of the Western Balkans. Starting with the completion of a phase of the process that we hope will take place at the next Council in June. We greatly appreciate the Federal Government's consideration for the progress we have made, but we are aware that we still have much to do in all directions. We are determined to do all that needs to be done.

Secondly, we are completely 100% in line with the chancellor, as well as the whole EU against Russian aggression on Ukraine. We unanimously condemn the cruel crimes and unanimously demand a ceasefire as soon as possible and negotiations as genuine as possible to lead to the end of this past that is destroying the lives of millions of people. Thirdly, in the conversations with the Chancellor, it was definitely very welcome on my part, his attitude and the expression of the desire to give a new impetus to the Berlin process. It is a process that needs a new impulse, due to the slowdown.

On the other hand, I informed the Chancellor about the Open Balkans, which is nothing but an attempt to implement the Berlin process. Involving all countries in the four EU freedoms is the right thing to guarantee, peace and the future. Lastly, in terms of bilateral relations, they are excellent. I very much hope that Germany, in addition to doing its part, will fulfill at the EU level the visa liberalization process for Kosovo", declared Rama.
