Notorious Habilaj Family Takes Back Seized Assets

Authorities have given back 13 of the properties to Habilaj brothers, namely of Moisi, Artan and Florian Habilaj after 22 of thir properties were seized, including 10 apartments, 3 buildings, 2 business units, land and 5 vehicles.

In parallel with the criminal investigation, properties confiscated conclusively as they were considered criminal source were only 2 buildings, 1 apartment, 1 business unit and 5 cars.

In 2017, the Catania prosecutor's office finalized the investigation into one of the most powerful drug trafficking groups from Albania to Italy, that of the Habilaj brothers from Vlora.

They were mentioned by politics as a close link of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, who was accused by the Albanian prosecution of being an accomplice of the Habilaj family. In the end, he was sentenced to 3 years of probation for the charge of "abuse of duty".

"The part of salvation through various documents using holes in the law to remove as much property as possible from the ownership of the criminal owner is a known practice, and it is known why many of these we all know who has them on paper is someone another, in the end makes some strange property transfers", said the economics expert, Pano Soko.

The police appeared noisily seizing the petrol station owned by the Habilajs in Vlora, but the next day normalcy returned there. Artan Habilaj calmly continued the activity. Surprisingly, only the land and the building were seized. The "AMF" fuel trading company was not affected at all by the authorities, as it appears in the QKB extract, continuing to be a source of profits for Habilaj.

On June 18, 2021, the Special Court against Organized Crime and Corruption (GJKKO), by verdict of Judge Irena Gjoka, decided to seize the assets of Habilaj Gang Leader, Moisi Habilaj and his family.

Under confiscation have been put the assets of Moisi Habilaj and his family, consisting of some apartments, land, units, buildings, garages, as well as some "Audi", "Ford" and "Skoda" type cars.

Nevertheless, Moisi Habilaj is accused of international drug trafficking, while according to the GJKKO, the confiscated property amounts to new ALL 82.440.285 and is located in Vlora.

Confiscation of assets owned by Moisi Habilaj, Florian Habilaj and their families was demanded earlier on by the Special Prosecution against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK).

On May 18, the Special Court gave its verdict on Moisi Habilaj's group, sentencing 4 people to 37 years in prison. The leader of the criminal group was sentenced to 10 years in prison for several criminal offenses such as "Drug trafficking and Structured criminal group".

Apart from Moisi Habilaj, Nezar Seiti, Meridian Sulaj and Fatmir Minaj were sentenced to 9 years in prison each.
