PM Rama Defends Open Balkan in Presence of Kurti

Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama told his counterpart, Albania Kurti, this Monday that Open Balkan is the only way to move forward and not remained trapped in the past.

Admitting that Kosovo has its wounds still opened due to the war of 1999, the Prime Minister of Albania highlighted that Kosovo must find the strength to look to the future.

Among other things, the Albanian Premier stated that Open Balkan is nothing more than an initiative done to fasten Berlion Process which foresees only one meeting in a year.

''Since you addressed me, big brother, I will say that I learned along the way that with the little brother there is always a problem when you tell the little brother he does not listen to you, and he says always solve me the problem. I do not claim to be the older brother, much less the older brother of Albin, who is younger. He would never accept it, this is an old, philosophical debate between us.

I am even more convinced today that the Open Balkans is the only strategic direction that we do not get stuck cyclically in the mud of the past as Albanians and the region. Reproduction of history is a well-known Balkan industry, but it will give way to peace welding. All this can not be complete without the final recognition of Kosovo. In an Open Balkans, the freedom of people, capital, goods, services, there is less and less room for these artifices coming from the past.

The dialogue is more likely to succeed in my opinion. And the last, Open Balkans is nothing but taking ownership of the Berlin process and accelerating it, not waiting once a year to gather in the capitals but to advance these necessary initiatives. I understand very well that Kosovo has a hot wound and history is very close, but at the same time, the strength must be very great to see further. Kosovo has won the war, the war is over. Planes and helicopters are for propagandistic food in Serbia, Kosovo has nothing to do with them. Brother and neighbor do not choose, agree? So blood, family, past and future connect you with your brother. You have it there and my grandmother used to say there is no happy home with a dissatisfied neighbor. We must make every effort and the efforts for the Open Balkans does not eclipse the battle to win the recognition of Kosovo," said Rama.

Albin Kurti has not accepted until now to be part of the Open Balkan initiative where Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia have joined. For Kurti, it exists only the Berlin process as long as Serbia doesn't recognize Kosovo.
