Rama-Soreca Conference on Albania’s EC Progress Report

Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Ambassador of the European Union to Tirana, Luigi Soreca, will hold this Wednesday at 09:15 a joint press conference.

Main topic of the conference will be the progress report published yesterday by the European Commission regarding Albania's progress in the framework of membership in the European Union. This is also seen as a kind of confrontation with the facts, as there will no longer be certain opinions from Rama or Soreca regarding the progress made.

Also, today will take place the next meeting of the National Council for European Integration (NCEI), where will be presented the "Annual Report of the European Commission for Albania".

Meanwhile, welcoming speech will be given by the Chairperson, Jorida Tabaku and the Vice Chairperson of the National Council for European Integration, Taulant Balla.

Afterwards, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, as well as Zef Mazi, Albania's Chief Negotiator with the European Union, will inform the members and permanent guests of the KKIE on the steps for following the recommendations of this report.

According to the report, the justice system is somewhat prepared. "Albania has continued to implement comprehensive justice reform, which has led to good progress. An important moment was the appointment at the end of 2020 of 3 new members of the Constitutional Court "- the report stated.

It also added that the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) and the Court of Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime need to further develop their investigative skills in prosecuting corruption, "which remains a serious concern because it prevails in many areas of public and private life".

In addition, the patronageists are mentioned in the EU progress report on Albania.

"According to the OSCE / ODIHR, concerns remain regarding the misuse of state resources and functions by the ruling party and other public figures, including widespread allegations of vote-buying and the leak of sensitive personal data on citizens' political preferences", said the European Union Progress Report.
