TAP to Build Exit Point in Fier in 2-3 yrs
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) gas pipeline project, which runs through Albania with a length of 215 km, creates a direct reduction of Russian gas dependence in Europe.
According to the administrator of the Albanian gas operator Albgaz, Arbër Avrami, the benefits are great for Albania as well, as the exit point of TAP will be built in Fier.
"Not only the Albanian state has benefited from this contract, but also, most importantly, it has benefited from the transfer of capacities to perform these types of services. It is also the first exit point in Fier with direction from the south together with the measuring station of pressure reduction, an investment of several million euros which will be carried out by TAP and in the end will pass to the Albanian state as an asset,” Avrami said, adding that the exit point will be completed in a period of 2-3 years.
In January 2021, Albania signed a memorandum for the construction of a regional terminal for liquefied gas, which will directly affect the gas supply in Albania and the region.
"With the aim of restoring the current capacity of the Vlora TPP, we are in the modeling phase of an additional capacity of this power plant. Today, Albania will have the opportunity to develop a small-scale distribution model of liquefied gas, which will certainly benefit due to lower gas costs, industries and the final consumer. This terminal will also be connected through the Fier-Vlora pipeline with the TAP pipeline,” Avrami said.
Within a few years, Albania will have the opportunity for prices many times lower than currently liquefied gas. Due to sanctions against Russia from the war in Ukraine, thanks to the TAP pipeline, the transportation of the first 10 billion cubic meters of gas has started in Europe, of which 8.5 have been delivered to Italy.
