Togo Official Confirms Withdrawal of Kosovo's Recognition
Togo's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Diaspora, Robert Dussey, confirmed in Belgrade "unreserved support" for Serbia's territorial integrity, confirming withdrawal of Kosovo's recognition Beta agency reported.
"We in Togo know only one Serbia, a united Serbia. I am happy to hear you mention the withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo and this is a definitive decision", he said during the meeting in Belgrade on January 16 with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic.
Since 2019, Serbia claims that Togo has withdrawn recognition of Kosovo's independence.
Togo recognized the independence of Kosovo on July 2, 2014, and it was precisely the chief diplomat Dussey who, with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, signed the agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two states.
Dacic, however, said that the withdrawal of Kosovo's recognition opens the possibility for dialogue and negotiations, because those who want an independent Kosovo "want to do it through shortcuts or force, or by overvoting in some international forums".
The Government of Serbia announced that the Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, has thanked Dussey for Togo's "principled position" when it comes, as her office has said, to respecting Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On January 4, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, declared that Serbia is waiting for the tenth state, which, according to him, will withdraw the recognition of Kosovo, but without specifying which state it is.
Vucic claimed that nine countries have already withdrawn recognition of Kosovo: Somalia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Eswatini, Libya, Guinea, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia and the Maldives.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo rejected Vucic's claims, saying that they "have not been confirmed even after conversations with the representatives at various levels of these countries, nor after consultation with the important partners of Kosovo.
Serbia has also claimed in the past that various countries have withdrawn recognition of Kosovo's independence. However, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since the declaration of independence in 2008, 117 countries have recognized Kosovo.
