Turkish Ambassador Holds Meeting with Elbasan Mayor
The Turkish ambassador in Tirana, Tayyar Kagan Atay, has paid a visit to the city of Elbasan, meanwhile he met with heads of institutions, teachers and students. During his visit, Ambassador Atay met with the Prefect of Elbasan District, Majlinda Perriu, the Mayor of Elbasan, Gledian Llatja, and the head of the University of Elbasan, "Aleksandër Xhuvani", discussing cooperation with Turkish institutions and other issues.
In a statement to the media after the meetings, Ambassador Atay said that in the meeting with the mayor Llatja they talked about the issues in which they can cooperate.
"In the first days that I came to Albania, I had the honour of meeting the mayor (Llatja) within the framework of the Turkish Culture Week, and we held some activities last year in the city of Elbasan. The mayor is a man who knows Turkey closely and as such, he has close ties with several municipalities in Turkey. We as the Embassy will take some steps to facilitate communication between them," said Atay.
Ambassador Atay emphasized that on behalf of the Turkish companies located in Elbasan, he thanked Mayor Llatja for the help shown to them.
In his statement, Mayor Llatja said that cooperation with Turkey has been comprehensive.
"We have a very strong point of connection in Elbasan with Turkey, they are the businesses that develop the activity in Elbasan, which are actually one of the main engines of economic development, not only of Elbasan, but also of Albania", said Llatja.
Llatja emphasized that one of the main investments of the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) in Elbasan has been that of the dormitory, which according to him is one of the welcoming structures for all students of Elbasan.
"We have had a good cooperation in the field of culture and I am convinced that we will continue it in the future. I wished success to the ambassador for the conduct of the elections in the Republic of Turkey and the good process that actually took place in the embassy", said Llatja.
Ambassador Atay also visited "Aleksandër Xhuvani" University, where he met with the rector Prof. dr. Skender Topi and lecturers, as well as held a conversation with university students, in the framework of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
During the conversation, Ambassador Atay emphasized that Turkey-Albania relations are at an excellent level and added that they intend to advance them to a new dimension.
