The U.S. Embassy to Tirana reacted this Friday after socialists in Parliament refused to sent the issue of the mandate of socialist Olta Xhacka to the Constitutional Court.

In a short reaction the U.S. Embassy shares the European Union Delegation’s concern about yesterday's decision in Albania's parliament to disregard a Constitutional Court ruling. 

"As the Speaker recently noted, taking the necessary steps on Constitutional Court decisions is a core responsibility of Parliament, and it is also crucial to the principle of the separation of powers. Government and institutions must adhere to regulations, laws, court rulings, and the constitution – all of which are put in place to ensure a democratic system is healthy and thriving," says statement.
