Albania Declares Two North Macedonian Citizens ‘Persona Non Grata’ Over Security Concerns

Albania's Ministry of Interior has declared two additional foreign nationals persona non grata over suspected activities considered harmful to the Albanian state, local media reported Tuesday.

The individuals are Valon Beljan (also known as Valjon Bela) and Bekir Halimi, both citizens of North Macedonia.

According to the sources, the decision followed a proposal by the Albanian State Police's Counterterrorism Unit and was subsequently approved by the Ministry of Interior. Authorities said they possess information indicating the two men were involved in activities deemed detrimental to Albania's national interests, although no further details have been made public.

The move comes just weeks after the Ministry of Interior declared Ikballe Huduti persona non grata, barring her from entering Albania for 15 years.

Albanian authorities have not publicly disclosed additional evidence supporting the latest designations or specified the nature of the alleged activities.
