Albania Launches COVID-19 Vaccination for Children Aged 12-15 Years Old

Director of the Institute of Public Health, also member of the Technical Committee of Experts, Silva Bino, informed Monday that the vaccination of children aged 12-15 years suffering from chronic diseases has started.

In a statement to the media, Bino said the same will apply to the 16-17 age group. She also stated that the application of the third dose of the vaccine will start.

"Vaccination of children 12 to 15 years old will happen for children who have concomitant diseases such as asthma, chronic heart disease, cancer, etc. These are the children who will be vaccinated first. Also for the age group 16 to 17 years, those who have concomitant diseases will be vaccinated first.

The only approved vaccine for children is Pfizer. The committee did not consider the 'Coronavac' vaccine reasonable. Of course the application of the vaccine will be carried out according to the instructions. Two doses will be taken and then the third dose. This vaccine will be given with the approval of the parents.

The place for the parent firm is also added to the form. In children, anti-covid vaccination with other vaccines can be given at the same time without a set time limit. For the very fact that anti-covid vaccines are not live virus vaccines.

They are prepared differently. We have figures on how many children will get the vaccine in the first place. It is not a large number, after we finish with this category of children, we will also vaccinate healthy children.

As for the third dose there will be a vaccination schedule, as this is a new disease that is still being monitored. For measles and tetanus we are vaccinated several times after the immunity weakens.

For covidine we have studies that show that after 6 months the immunity weakens so another dose should be done.

For people over 60 who have immunosuppression will be given a third dose after 4 or 6 weeks," said Bino.
