Albania’s Socialist Party to Hold Expanded Parliamentary Group Meeting Amid Internal Tensions
The ruling Socialist Party will hold an expanded meeting of its parliamentary group on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., following internal disagreements over the country’s Territorial Reform.
The meeting, called by Prime Minister Edi Rama, will take place at the Palace of Brigades and is expected to bring together Socialist lawmakers and government ministers.
The gathering was initially scheduled for the following day but has since been postponed to Wednesday.
The meeting comes amid tensions within the Socialist Party over its proposed Territorial Reform, which was approved in Parliament with the support of all Socialist majority lawmakers, despite reported objections from several members.
Socialist MPs Erion Braçe, Vullnet Sinaj, and Elisa Spiropali have expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s draft reform. Braçe, one of the most vocal critics of the proposal, maintained his opposition even after voting in favor of it in Parliament.
Braçe explained that his vote was intended to avoid being expelled from the Socialist Party, after Prime Minister Rama reportedly warned that lawmakers who refused to support the reform would face expulsion.
