Albania to Establish Ministry of Public Administration Next Week, Rama Says
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Friday that the government will establish a Ministry of Public Administration next week, with current Minister of State Adea Pirdeni expected to lead the new institution.
Rama made the announcement during the presentation of the government’s “Merit Ladder” platform, an initiative aimed at developing a more professional, merit-based public administration.
Pirdeni currently serves as Minister of State for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption.
Rama said the new ministry would expand the government’s responsibilities and ambitions in public administration reform, describing the sector as central to Albania’s efforts to strengthen its European institutions.
“Public administration has now become a central issue in the government’s work and in Albania’s further development as a European state,” Rama said.
The prime minister also linked the initiative to Albania’s goal of joining the European Union by 2030, arguing that a professional public administration would be essential to advancing the country’s European integration.
Rama said Pirdeni was the appropriate choice to lead the new ministry, citing her current responsibilities in public administration.
The announcement comes as the government promotes the “Merit Ladder” platform, which it says is intended to strengthen professionalism in the civil service and support a more merit-based approach to public-sector careers.
Further details on the new ministry’s structure and responsibilities were not provided in the announcement.
