Albanian Govt Considering Learning of Turkish in Most Schools
Several Albania-Turkey agreements have been signed in the field of education and the government is conducting a study if Albanian parents would like their children to learn Turkish at school as an optional language, has revealed the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Evis Kushi.
About the announcement received by the parents about the possibility of introducing the Turkish language in the curriculum, Minister Kushi, said that everything is under study and no one will be forced to learn a language they do not want.
"One of the most beautiful innovations for this school year has been the English language since the first grade. According to the approved curriculum, in the sixth grade, students start learning a second language in the sixth grade. It can be Italian, German, French and so on.
Regarding the Turkish language, we have signed several agreements in Turkey, among them an agreement in the field of education. We are committed to this agreement to do a study on whether there is interest in learning Turkish as an optional language. But, I want to emphasize that in Turkey, the Albanian language is included as a second language in some areas.
We have not yet made a decision on this issue. The questionnaire started in December, not after the visit of Turkish President Erdogan. Today we are talking, we do not have decision-making yet and I assure all parents that there will be no imposition for students to learn Turkish if they have no interest", added Kushi.
