Albanian Ministry Criticizes Greece over Fredi Beleri's Issue

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Europe, Olta Xhaçka, has responded to the statement of Greek Foreign Ministry, who said that the decision to arrest the candidate of the "Together We Win" coalition for the municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri was scandalous.

Xhaçka highlighted that it is impossible to understand that our Greek friends oppose a court decision in Albania. Minister added that Beleri was caught doing vote-buying, a criminal act against free and fair elections.

Moreover, Albanian Foreign Minister also calls on Greek friends to refrain from statements that do not respect independent institutions in our country.

"It is nearly impossible to understand how our Greek friends have the right to dispute a court decision in our country, when the hard evidence they were looking for couldn't be any harder - Fredi Beleri has been caught engaging in criminal activity against free and fair elections. We do not understand how being a Greek national exempts him from the law as a citizen of Albania. We urge our Greek friends to refrain from making statements that disrespect the independent institutions of our country", declared Xhacka.

Fredi Beleri was arrested late on Thursday, as Vlora Prosecution accuses him of being involved in vote-buying. A collaborator of justice has talked Beleri and his close friend of taking ALL 40.000 for 8 votes, while the collaborator would be paid ALL 30.000 himself for finding the votes.

Prosecution says it has enough evidence of Beleri's implication such as videos or tapings, while the Court decided this Saturday to leave in prison Fredi Beleri, just like his friend, Pandeli Kokoveshi.
