Albanian Renowned Singer Passes Away

Albanian famous artist Sherf Merdani has passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday. It is learned that the artist has passed away from a serious illness. 

Singer Sherif Merdani has been a political prisoner for several years. After the 11th Festival, he and some of his colleagues ended up in jail. 

Deserved artist Sherif Merdani spent 16 years in prison.

Sherif Merdani is a famous singer. Sherif Merdani is a persecuted singer and Albanian diplomat from Albania. 

He is known as a great Albanian singer of Albanian light music. He especially sang songs composed by Kastriot Gjini. After the 11th Festival, as well as some of his colleagues, he was persecuted by the dictatorship of Enver Hoxha and served 16 years in prison. In the '90s he also worked as a diplomat at the Albanian Embassy in Rome.
