Albanians among Eight Extortionists Arrested in Greece

A group of 8 people have been left in jail by a Greek court in Crete after being caught extorting people through loans.

Among those arrested are two 30-year-old Albanians, who along with a 46-year-old Greek are accused of being the nucleus of a criminal group building a pyramid scheme. Albanian-Greek gangs have extorted a number of people by taking large sums of money and then buying luxury cars such as Porsche, Jaguar.

"Every piece of evidence is a painful story," said a police officer. They extorted people through a borrowing scheme, almost in mafia and destructive terms. Each case was different, but generally for a loan of 5000 euros, the interest could be up to 2000 euros per month. If there were delays in the payment of interest, the interest was doubled and tripled. An amount of 5,000 euros could be converted into a form to be repaid up to 50,000 euros!

According to Greek media reports, there were also people who had health problems or had to undergo surgery for themselves or their children and borrowed at interest, "signing" their sentence.

Also, there were people who due to the pandemic, in order not to lock their businesses (companies, shops, pharmacies, etc.) were forced to borrow from the gang of extortionists, to save their business and now yes drowned by the snare of interest and threats. The pressure was so great that some had gone through the process of selling their properties to repay the loans.

The 46-year-old is a well-known person in Heraklion, both from various criminal cases, as well as from his presence during the night life and in the gyms. While the two Albanians are not very well known for Greek justice.

According to Greek police, the file contains serious evidence of victims who trusted the leaders of the Organization and agreed to speak.

But there are others (they already know some of them) who are still silent in fear. "Now is the time to talk. A very serious effort is being made to "clean up" the landscape. It is in their hands. We extend our hand to help them. "
