Russian General Killed in Ukraine
Another senior Russian military official has lost his life in the war in Ukraine. Major General Andrei Simonov became the last senior commander to die in battle and the ninth in a row since the start of the war.
Simonov was reportedly killed near the town of Izyum in the northeastern Kharkiv region. Images shared on social media appear to show the impact from a rocket.
The attack also reportedly destroyed over 30 Russian armoured vehicles, including tanks. Presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych said in an interview that about 100 Russians were killed in the attack, including Simonov.
The news of the general's death was also shared by government adviser Anton Gerashchenko on his Telegram account. He said Simonov was the commander of the Second Army Electronic Warfare and was once the EW commander of the Western Military District.
The number of Putin commanders who lost their lives in Ukraine continues to rise, as a crushing blow to the Russian leader. A total of nine Russian generals have now been killed in Putin's war along with 36 colonels and 300 officers.
