Basha Holds Meeting with High US Official in Washington
The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, has held a meeting with the director for Central and Eastern Europe of the "American Democratic Institute" (NDI), Robert Benjamin, and his team in Washington.
In this meeting, Mr. Basha was accompanied by the vice-president Oriola Pampuri, the secretary for human resources and digital coordination, Endri Hasa, and the secretaries for legal and electoral affairs, Indit Sefa and Rezart Kthupi.
Mr. Basha expressed his belief that with the help of the USA and other partners, Albania will manage to restore democratic values.
The fight against corruption, cleaning politics from corrupt and incriminated politicians, free and fair elections are the priorities of the DP.
Mr. Basha thanked the "American Democratic Institute" and Robert Benjamin for their cooperation and support.
The chairman of the DP, Lulzim Basha, emphasized that corruption is the biggest obstacle to the development of the country and the creation of opportunities for young people to build their lives in Albania.
In this context, the Municipality emphasized the support of the Democratic Party for SPAK (Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution) and the commitment through legal initiatives in the Parliament to contribute to the fight against corruption, especially at the highest levels. The money that was stolen from Albanians and ended up in bank accounts, or was invested anywhere in the world, must be returned to Albanians.
Mr. Basha has considered unacceptable the attacks on the justice system and SPAK in particular that come from his subjects or the tendency to politicize SPAK, through the attempt to appropriate its work by political actors.
Mr. Basha has revealed the initiatives of the DP that are already in the Parliament, such as the vetting of politicians, through which the aim is to clean politics from the corrupt and incriminated, the open lists, where the MPs are elected directly by the vote of the citizens, the organization in an electoral area, which creates the equality of citizens' votes by eliminating the differences between different cities and enabling the diaspora to vote.
Basha announced that the citizens were consulted in advance for these initiatives and they have maximum support. Now, the vote of the deputies is awaited to be transformed into legal obligations.
Basha also spoke about the special attention that the DP is paying to the inclusion of as many women and young people as possible during the process of reorganization of the Democratic Party and the project of the Civic Alliance for Democracy, the coalition that will return the hope of Albanians, to liberate economy and to advance the changes that Albanians expect.
