Bulgarian Govt of Kiril Petkov Collapses
The government of Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov has been overthrown in Parliament. The overthrow of the Bulgarian government came after the motion of no confidence by the opposition where it was voted with 123 votes in favour of dismissal and 116 against.
The decision comes at a time when Bulgaria is expected to lift its veto on northern Macedonia to move forward with negotiations with the European Union. The country is now expected to move towards early elections.
Kiril Petkov was one of the people who was in favour of lifting the veto on Northern Macedonia, to pave the way for the process of negotiations and its membership and consequently of Albania in the EU.
Petkov who came to power 6 months ago. He was voted to fight corruption and placed Bulgaria at the forefront of Western countries in tough sanctions against Russia since the invasion of Ukraine.
