CEC Publishes Formula for Division of Mandates Parliament
The Central Elections Commission (CEC) made public this Tuesday how the mandates of the members of Parliament will be divided according to the new pact between the socialists and democrats for the closed lists.
According to the new formula, the first 46 candidates for MP will be proposed by the chairman of the party and they will be on the closed list.
Meanwhile, only parties that manage to obtain a number of mandates that exceeds the closed list will be able to send deputies to the Assembly as a citizen's preference.
For the parliamentary elections on May 11, political parties must find 186 candidates, since although there are 140 seats in Parliament, the division of the candidate list into two parts, one fixed and the other open, forces the competing entities to present more names.
