CEC Tests Electronic Voting Device in Lundër

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has tested this Friday the device for electronic voting, which is stationed in Lundër, Tirana, as part of the May 14 elections.

In a statement to the media, the head of CEC Ilirijan Celibashi said that this device avoids manipulative methods related to biometric identification and that this is noticed if the voter will try to avoid it.

He added that this device will help with the absolute number of voters in the election and if difficulties are encountered, then citizens can sign on the ballot paper.

"We have significantly improved the entire system of recording cases when, for objective reasons, the biometric identification of voters cannot be done. The system is such that it leaves no reason and opportunity for anyone who manipulatively seeks to avoid biometric identification. If a voter will use a way to avoid biometric identification, it will be clearly documented for what reasons. We have identified cases where a certain voter found a way to avoid being fingerprinted. Now with a better system of operators, I believe that the process of biometric identification will be better realized.

An added feature of this system is the periodic transmission of data on election day turnout. For the first time thanks to this technology, we will have real data on the absolute number of participants in the vote, we will not base the percentage on polls but on the concrete fact and we will make these data public. Even the operators themselves are clear, they developed an intensive training process and if there is one thing they have understood it is that they should not put their fingers on the biometric identification devices. If this will be the case, the voter who for more subjective reasons does not leave the identification mark, must sign the coupon of the device and the list of voters", he said.

It is learned that this device has been tested in Elbasan, Kamze, while the one in Vora will be reviewed soon.
