European Union has sent to Kosovo the Deputy Secretary General for Security and Common Defense, Charles Fries, after the tense situation in the northern part of the country.

His visit was announced by the head of the EU in Kosovo, Tomas Szunyog, who also received him in a meeting.

"I am pleased to welcome Deputy Secretary General Charles Fries for his visit to Kosovo. We discussed political developments, security issues and the European security agenda of Kosovo", he said.

Head of the EU said that the European security official will also meet with the institutional leaders of Kosovo.

"During this visit he will meet with institutional leaders and leaders of the civil society of Kosovo".
