Constitutional Court Abolishes Fuel Board

Albaniam Fuel Transparency Board, established by government decision after the Ukraine-Russia war, has been abolished by the Constitutional Court.

Constitutional Court considered in a public plenary session the request of no less than one fifth of the deputies of the Assembly of Albania, with the object: "Repeal of law no. 39/2022 "For the approval of normative act no. 5, dated 12.03.2022 "For some additions to the law no. 8450, dated 24.02.1999 "On the processing, transportation and trading of oil, gas and their by-products", as amended", as incompatible with the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.

The same fate happened to the Food Board, which the Constitutional Court, at the request of the DP parliamentary group, abolished in February, after evaluating it as incompatible with the Constitution of the Republic of Albania.

Transparency Board, the oil, petrol and gas board was set up by the government in March last year following inflation caused by the Russia-Ukraine war.

The aim was to avoid abuses, but the formula of how the price was determined has been repeatedly questioned.
