Cyber Attacks, AKSHI's Head Seeks Closed Doors Hearing with NSC
Director of the National Information Society Agency (AKSHI), Mirlinda Karcanaj, was present at the National Security Commission, in a hearing to report on cyber attacks on state institutions and the TIMS system.
At the beginning of the session, Karcanaj requested that the meeting take place behind closed doors because the information she would release was highly classified.
"Due to the fact that during the discussion we will deal with a considerable amount of information that is classified, secret or top secret, I would ask that the session be held without the presence of cameras, with closed doors", said Karçanaj.
This statement of Karcanaj sparked a debate between the MPs of the majority and the opposition.
Democratic MP Ferdinand Xhaferaj said that the most dangerous hack is corruption, as according to him, it was the deficiencies in the system that created the opportunity for Iranian hackers to penetrate Albania's digital systems.
"Thank you, Speaker, we are a group of MPs who saw this hearing as reasonable. The director of AKSHI considers it reasonable to do it behind closed doors. We, as MPs, have requested this session that despite the fact that national security was compromised by Iranian hackers, the most dangerous hacker that constantly compromises national security is corruption, and we have all the arguments to prove this as well. So, it was the deficiencies left in the system by corruption that led the Iranian hackers to our system", declared Xhaferaj.
