Democrats Give Voice to Problems of Ishem Residents

As we are only a few days away from the start of the new school year, under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the representatives of the Democratic Party (DP), Albana Vokshi and Gent Strazimiri have held a meeting with teachers, parents and students of the villages Lalëz, Likmetaj and Gjuriçaj in Ishem administrative unit of Durrës.

While on the ground, DP representatives stressed that in the village of Lalëz the only functioning school will host all pupils, starting from kindergarten children to high school students, as the other school was completely damaged by the earthquake.

The former director of this school, but also the parents of the pupils told the representatives of the DP that the school can not meet the security requirements as it will have to withstand a large number of students while its capacity is small.

The biggest problem of this school apart from overcapacity and the depreciated infrastructure is the fact that there is no hygienic-sanitary condition as the toilet is completely non-functional.

According to DP, in another village of this unit, Likmetaj, the school is out of order and the children have to walk miles to go to another school where they will learn in shifts after the school that had to be rebuilt is not ready for new school year as it was promised.

For parents, transportation is also a problem, because in addition to the fund set by the education directorate, they have to pay for this aspect themselves. Also in the conditions that the residents live in this area, online learning is impossible as they still live in tents because their houses have been damaged by the earthquake and still have no solution.
